Build A Bear with Lauren

I took Lauren to Build A Bear so that she could pick out a birthday present. The first picture is on the way there. We brought Sprinkle Cookies Bear so that she could meet her new friend. After she picked out her new bunny, named Sprinkle Flower, she needed to wash her. On the way home she passed out in the car because it was so exhausting.

Cake decorating class: the outcome

I had my last basic cake decorating class today. I learned a lot in the class and plan to take the other 2 that are offered. I didn't have time to complete my cake and plan to finish tomorrow, in between cleaning for Lauren's party. The picture that you see is what the kids wanted to put on the cake, so of course I obliged:) My icing for the flowers softened up a bit so the flowers didn't turn out how I wanted them but that is why it is practice. I did the butterfly freehand and even got a compliment from the instructor so that made me feel better. Don't even ask about the tree!! I think that I have mastered the star shapes so at least those are the primary things that I will be putting on Lauren's cake this weekend. (Sorry for some of the images being sideways, they aren't that way on my computer and I can't fix it)

Playdate 2

Lauren had another friend from school over on Saturday for a playdate. They also played dress up and 'drove the horse.' They were too cute.

Playdate 1

This past Friday I watched a friend of Lauren's for the morning and then took the girls to school. First they played dress up and then we went to a farmer's market (they liked the pink elephant out front that they thought looked like it was made out of marshmallows) and then to McDonald's for lunch. After school her mom picked the girls up and took them for ice cream. They both had a great time and can't wait to do it again...

2nd attempt, not so cute

So my 2nd decorated cake didn't turn out like I wanted it to. We learned a few new techniques, like the fluffy looking legs so I decided to practice that on my cake in class. I really don't like it. I think that I will stick to stars for filling in objects and use the fluffiness for clouds. In case some of you don't know what this guy is, he is a Lego minifigure. Jeff drew him for me and his drawing looked way better than the outcome:) Luke thought it was cool though so that is what counts, or maybe he was just excited about the icing. Some of you may not know that Luke LOVES icing. For our last class next week, we are supposed to design a cake and decorate it in class. I have an idea in mind so I just need to draw it out and you will see the results next week.

On a side note, we had to fill cupcakes with filling this week. I practiced some over the weekend and have a fantastic recipe (I think) for Bavarian cream that was really easy. I made a yellow cake with the cream in the middle with chocolate ganache ontop. It was yummy. Anyway, some people in my class really liked my easy recipe and wanted a copy. Yay Internet and your recipes.

First cake decorating attempt

I started a cake decorating class last week and I am pretty excited about it. Since my aunt is not available to do cakes up here in the Great White North, I have taken it upon myself to start making the kids' cakes. My neighbor and I worked on this one as a first attempt cake. She is planning this Tinkerbell cake for her daughter next week so we are learning together. She will benefit from the lessons that I am taking and in exchange she will help me with sewing.

Lauren wants a butterfly cake for her birthday and I already bought the mold for it so we will see how it turns out.

Lauren's swim suit

I got Lauren a super cute bathing suit this year. She started swim lessons and is really excited about them.

They fell asleep like this
